Below Deck Mediterranean's Conrad Empson Has Some News About His Yachting Career
The bosun reveals what he's been up to since Season 3 of Below Deck Med.
This season of Below Deck Mediterranean is so dramatic, we imagine everyone in the Talisman Maiton crew could have used a vacation after the final charter. But at least one crew member has taken quite a big break from yachting recently.
Conrad Empson revealed to Decider that he hasn't worked on any yachts since this season of Below Deck Med ended — but the bosun has a really sweet reason for that. "I spent some time at home after it all ended. For four years, I’d spent a month each year at home. I’d missed so many birthdays and Christmases and everything like that. I just wanted to go home and spend some time and have a normal life for a little bit," he said. "I don’t know what my plan is, whether I will go back to yachting or not. I don’t know whether I will. Because they refer to yachting as the golden handcuffs. You get paid very well, and it’s a lifestyle you can get used to, but there’s no progression into another life."
Conrad, 23, has worked in yachting since he was 19 years old, he shared earlier this season of Below Deck Med. His mother also worked in the yachting industry, so she encouraged him to get into the business at an early age, according to Conrad's bio on Bravotv.com. By the time he joined the Talisman Maiton crew, Conrad had been working as a bosun for the past year-and-a-half or so.
Since this season of Below Deck Med hasn't aired in Conrad's native U.K. yet, he said the show hasn't really impacted his daily life too much, either. "Yeah, the only thing I get is social media. That’s the only side I see of Below Deck airing," he told Decider. "Otherwise, I just live a normal life. Completely normal. It’s nice though, coming over here and seeing it and experiencing it."
For now, we get to see Conrad's yachtie skills in action on Below Deck Med Tuesdays at 9/8c. Check out a preview of an all-new upcoming episode, below.
