Gael & Nathan *Finally* Reveal What “Strawberry” Really Means: “Nobody’s Gonna Believe...”
Below Deck Mediterranean's Gael Cameron and Nathan Gallagher are telling all about "strawberry" and that fourth-wall breaking moment.
One of Gael Cameron and Nathan Gallagher's first conversations on Season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean was about strawberries, and ever since then, the yachties have continued to talk about the fruit — or have they? Both Gael and Nathan weighed in on the true meaning of "strawberry" during a recent episode of the Below Deck Mediterranean After Show.
Gael, for her part, said, "Strawberry — it's a damn fruit, man!" before quickly admitting, "I get how it looked."
Nathan, on the other hand, stated, "Strawberry wasn't necessarily a strawberry, all right?"
From there, Gael launched into the backstory of the word.
"What had happened is we brought the provisions in, and I was like, 'Holy sh-t, this is the freakin' best strawberry I've ever had,'" Gael began. "[Nathan] goes, 'Oh, are you gonna steal me one?' I was like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll steal you one!'"
Actually stealing another proved to be a big challenge, but Gael was determined. As she put it, "I'm a woman of my word. If I tell you I'm gonna jump that fence, let me tell you, it might take me 3 hours, but I will f-cking jump that fence."
Fast-forward to the crew's first night out, during which Gael was caught telling Nathan, "I haven't given you a strawberry yet. Can I do it tonight?"
Despite what it may sound like like, Gael insisted on the After Show that she was speaking literally at the time. So, when everyone returned to the boat, she snuck out of her cabin and attempted to grab a strawberry one last time — until she was caught by Below Deck Med producers.
Gael Cameron and Nathan Gallagher shed new light on breaking the fourth wall
Unbeknownst to Gael, Nathan had also snuck out of his cabin — but with a different goal in mind. She, however, wasn't aware of that at the time.
"I was like, 'Oh I got caught by the cameras!' and he was like, 'Oh, all good, I went to the bosun's locker to have a smoke anyway,'" Gael recalled. "I was never going to the bosun's locker! I didn't even know he was in the bosun's locker."
A producer on the Below Deck Med After Show then pointed out, "He was trying to get you to sneak out ... You were sneaking for a strawberry and he was sneaking for a kiss."
"Dudes, I'm not that bad!" Gael replied with a laugh.
Elsewhere on the After Show, Nathan reiterated what the producer had said, explaining, "I just rolled the dice. She walked up into the galley, seen the cameras, and got nervous and ran back. But that right there told me she was keen, so I cracked on from there."
