Austen Kroll Explains *That* Awkward Toast at Madison LeCroy’s Wedding Party

There was plenty of awkwardness to go around at Madison LeCroy and Brett Randle's wedding celebration on the Southern Charm Season 9 premiere, but there's arguably one moment that stands out above the rest: Austen Kroll's toast.

Austen Kroll's Toast at Madison LeCroy's Wedding Party
Austen jokingly began to raise his glass like he was about to deliver a speech, but before he could clarify that he was joking, Madison encouraged her ex to actually give one. Shep Rose and Craig Conover naturally found this hilarious, and quickly joined Madison in requesting that Austen make a toast.
So, he did: "Cheers to the happy couple!"
Shep joked that what Austen had to say was "very profound," while Austen awkwardly followed up the brief toast by asking, "What the f-ck am I doing?"
Austen Kroll's Explanation for His Toast at Madison LeCroy's Wedding Party
In a recent interview with The Messenger, Austen was asked about the awkward toast. His initial response? "I think that I blacked it out. I hope it was nice."
Upon further reflection — particularly in regards to how short his speech was — Austen said that it was simply "inappropriate for me to ever be long-winded at something like that."
"It was no longer my place," he added. "So the only thing I could think of was to be short and sweet."
As for Shep and Craig's antics, Austen noted, "Of course, that's my friends just wanting to see me fumble the bag and wanting to see me slip up and be awkward or whatever. And I feel like I would have done the exact same thing to Shepard or Craig if they were in the same position."
Austen isn't the only one owning up to his behavior at Madison's party, though. In a sneak peek of Sept. 21's all-new episode of Southern Charm, Taylor Ann Green addresses what went down between her and Craig at the celebration. As fans may recall, the two got into it after Taylor accused Craig of "sitting on [some] information" about Shep allegedly cheating on her when they were together.
