Sanya Richards-Ross Shares an Update on Her Friendship with Kandi Burruss: “Speak Your Truth”
She also revealed whether she regrets making *this* comment about Kenya Moore and if she was surprised by Drew Sidora’s divorce.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Sanya Richards-Ross is a decorated Olympian, but she may not be receiving a gold medal from Kandi Burruss in the friendship department. In fact, the retired track-and-field athlete’s friendship with the Grammy winner could be running out of time thanks to Sanya’s connection with Marlo Hampton.
Marlo and Kandi haven’t been seeing eye-to-eye on RHOA Season 15, and after Sanya defended Marlo at Shereé Whitfield’s Gucci-themed brunch on Episode 7, Kandi told the athlete that she “[didn’t] need [her] trying to be her lawyer.”
As a result, on the June 18 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Sanya weighed in on whether she thinks she’s a “fence sitter” in her relationships with Kandi and Marlo. She also shared where she stands with Kenya Moore after making a certain comment, and she revealed whether she was surprised to find out about Drew Sidora and Ralph Pittman’s divorce.

Sanya’s Friendship with Kandi Burruss
After trying to explain Marlo’s point of view to Kandi (to no avail) during the group brunch, Sanya opened up about her friendship with the songstress on WWHL.
“I feel like if that’s gonna affect the friendship, the friendship is not solid anyway, you know what I mean?” Sanya said about Kandi’s strong reaction to her defending Marlo. “I feel like you should be able to speak your truth in those moments, and real friendships will stand.”

Though Sanya has been getting along with almost everyone in the group, her neutrality has caused an issue with Kandi — particularly as it has pertained to her beefs with Marlo and with new friend of the ladies, Courtney R. Rhodes.
In case you need a refresher, on the Season 15 premiere, Courtney poked fun at Kandi for an event that her followers had attended, and Sanya laughed instead of defending the multi-hyphenate. On WWHL, Sanya clapped back at the accusation that she’s a “fence sitter.”
“I feel like I got a lot of flak for that, but to me, she wasn’t trying to attack Kandi’s character,” Sanya said about how Courtney described the situation with Kandi. “And I feel like, as a friend, if she said something about Kandi, I’d be like, ‘Oh no, don’t do that.” But, to me, it didn’t come across as that heavy. It was kind of funny… It felt really light and funny in the moment.”

Sanya’s Friendships with Kenya Moore and Drew Sidora
In addition to getting in the middle of Marlo and Kandi’s drama at the Gucci brunch, Sanya made an attempt to get back on track with Kenya following their issue on the Birmingham trip.
Kenya revealed that she couldn’t fully trust Sanya because she said “something that was kind of offensive” to her when the athlete appeared on WWHL back in June 2022.
During a game on the show, Sanya sounded off on Marlo’s claim that Kenya had a “fake booty,” and she teased that the backside “could potentially” not be real. On Episode 7 of RHOA, Sanya defended her comment.
“Girl, the jury’s still out on your butt,” Sanya said in an interview on the episode. “I do not know. I don’t know if it’s real or fake. Who cares?”
Fast-forward to her June 18 appearance on WWHL, and Sanya revealed whether she had any regrets about losing Kenya’s trust over the butt comment. “No,” Sanya said. “How ’bout that?”
Sanya may not regret what she said about Kenya and her backside, but she was sorry to see the news that her RHOA castmate Drew Sidora was getting divorced.
“I was shocked!” Sanya said of finding out about the split in March 2023. “Listen, I was literally, two weeks before that, at the birthday party that Drew threw for him. And it was a moment. They were dancing together; she was singing to him.”
