Are Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor Legally Married?
The Valley's Brittany Cartwright is clearing up confusion about her marital status to Jax Taylor.
Despite some recent confusion on the subject, The Valley's Brittany Cartwright has confirmed that she and Jax Taylor are, in fact, legally married.
The estranged couple's marital status came into question after news broke that Jax responded to Brittany's divorce petition by stating the couple wasn't legally married and that he intended to give Brittany full custody of their son, Cruz Michael Cauchi. Brittany responded to E! News' Instagram post about Jax's filing, clarifying in a comment, "We are legally married."
Additionally, Brittany's mother, Sherri Cartwright, commented, "They are married," while Lance Bass, who officiated their wedding in 2019, said, "I can confirm this. Pastor Lance signed the papers."
As for what caused the mix-up, Jax's rep told The Daily Dish in a statement that Jax "made errors in filling out forms" and further confirmed the details of the estranged couple's recent separation.
“Jax and Brittany have already long resolved all matters related to custody of Cruz, and will continue to work together privately for the best interest of their son, which remains their overriding concern," the statement read. "While Jax made errors in filing out forms that are usually done by trained legal professionals, those errors will be amended without delay.”
When did Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor break up?
The estranged couple split in February 2024 and Brittany officially filed for divorce in August. They have been living separately since the split, and Jax recently moved to a townhouse (in a building where Vanderpump Rules' Tom Schwartz also resides).
"I thought it was a good move for me to get my own place, because it wasn't fair for Brittany to keep getting these Airbnbs, and she wasn't sure where she was going to go," Jax stated on the September 20 episode of his podcast, When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany. "Plus, I didn't want my son to be bouncing around to all these places. It didn't seem right. They weren't his home. It wasn't his house. It wasn't his pool. It wasn't his bedroom."
The former couple also continue to work on co-parenting their son amid their separation.

Brittany and Jax wed on June 29, 2019, in Brittany's home state of Kentucky at a castle.
The pair tied the knot in front of their families, numerous Vanderpump Rules friends, and pals from elsewhere.
“It feels amazing,” Brittany told PEOPLE before marrying Jax. “We’re stronger and happier than we’ve ever been. We’ve been through a lot, but we came out on the other side. I feel like we’ve just gotten stronger and stronger.”
