Andy Cohen Addresses the Possibility of Another Housewives Series: "Stay Tuned"
The WWHL host also shared his thoughts on dropping the "Housewives" title from the franchise.
Is Bravo planning to expand The Real Housewives universe? Not according to Andy Cohen.
The executive producer addressed the topic in the December 1 episode of the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen After Show, when he was asked about adding another city to the long-running franchise.
Would Andy consider ditching the "Housewives" title?
“Do you have any untapped city that you feel like has the best potential for the next franchise?” an audience member asked.
“Not really,” Andy said during the Bravo Fan Fest broadcast. “I mean, we’re always kind of fishing around but I think we’re in a pretty great place right now. But stay tuned. You never know.”
The fan also highlighted how much the franchise has evolved over the years, as the “Housewife” label no longer applied to many of its cast members.
“With all the single ladies and women running their own business… do you think you’d ever consider a rebrand of dropping the ‘Housewives’ title?” they asked.
“I think that would not be a good idea,” Andy said. “It’s a brand that is beloved worldwide, so…”
Andy explains why The Real Housewives of St. Louis will never happen
The Real Housewives kicked off in 2006 with The Real Housewives of Orange County. Since then, the U.S. franchise has expanded to 10 other regions across the world and resulted in numerous spinoffs.
There has also been speculation about other potential Housewives cities, like Chicago, New Orleans, and Andy’s hometown of St. Louis. Andy squashed the latter rumor in a November episode of the WWHL After Show, simply stating: “I don’t poop where I eat. You understand?”
Andy reflects on what makes The Real Housewives so successful
Andy spoke about the Housewives legacy during a June appearance on Busy This Week, a late-night talk show series hosted by Busy Philipps. He said the shows have become the modern-day soap operas and have left an indelible mark on pop culture.
“I’ve always been like, ‘Oh, what’s gonna be the thing to end the Housewives? When is this thing gonna end? And it just keeps going stronger,” he said. “And the truth is, I do think it’s testament to A) the women that we cast and B) the care that we take to make sure that the casting is right and that we’re listening to the audience… I view it akin to keeping a plane in the sky; you want to do everything you can to keep it going and healthy and strong so that people wanna watch.”
