The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore is paying it forward. According to the Detroit News, she has donated $20,000 to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. The Detroit native graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1989 and is now hoping that the money will be used to close the education equity gap in her struggling hometown.

"Detroit is in trouble and needs our help right now. The public funding for our children in DPS is not being met," Moore said. "We have to provide the proper foundation for our children to succeed."

Kenya will be on hand to present the check during an event in her honor being held Friday at her alma mater. She added, "What matters is that we take care of our kids. I'm trying to do my part, as small as it is."

The foundation was started in 2009 and has awards nearly $5 million in grants, according to Dr. Glenda Price, president of the foundation. The funds go directly to teachers and education nonprofits.

In addition to the donation, Kenya has been putting her Detroit price on full display on social media. "We are tough because we have to be. #Detroit," she shared.
