People Are Calling Out Victoria Beckham's Questionable Science-Lab Attire
Then again, lab coats have never looked so posh.
Victoria Beckham's first capsule collection with Estee Lauder proved successful—no shock there. So, it only makes sense that the designer and all-around style icon would be cooking up something new with the beauty giant. And yesterday, Victoria gave us a tantalizing peek at a new project to come.
The former Spice Girl took to Instagram to show a photo of herself hard at work in a lab. The caption didn't reveal any details about the project that has Victoria in a lab coat, but instead left a teaser: "watch this space!" Oh, we will—but we'll also be watching to see whether this science-geek-chic look takes off.
Victoria wore her white coat with an all-black uniform, including pants and a tucked-in tee that reads: Fashion Stole My Smile. (Victoria herself created the phrase as an in-on-the-joke gesture—for years, she's had a reputation for never smiling in public.) The designer also wore a gold Rolex watch on her wrist, but forewent some of the other tropes that scientists use for protection.
Commenters were quick to note that the look wasn't exactly practical for its setting. "No eye protection, no gloves, unbotton[ed] lab coat... I wish I looked like this in the lab," one skeptical user noted. Another chimed in: "The labcoat is no use to you girl if it's open." So, while everyone's encouraged to try this look at home—as a chic new way to layer for spring, perhaps?—we can't recommend that you give it a go in the lab.
