You Can Use Your Jewelry to Find Your Perfect Foundation (Yes, Really!)
A NYFW makeup artist just changed everything we know about shade matching.
Ahhh, New York Fashion Week! For many, this seasonal event is all about spotting the hottest trends on the runways. But for beauty junkies, the true magic happens backstage. After all, this secluded area is the only place to get a close look at all the upcoming beauty trends and products for the season—as well as tips straight from the pros.
In fact, while watching Artistry Lead Global Makeup Artist Rick DiCecca backstage at the Pamella Roland Spring 2018 show, we learned the most genius foundation hack. To complement Pamella Roland’s Spring 2018 collection—which is filled with glamorous designs inspired by a recent trip to Monaco—DiCecca decided to go with a simplistic yet enchanting beauty look.
To create this look, DiCecca swept the models' eyes lightly with a combination of colors from the Artistry Signature Color Eye Shadow Quad in Smoky, then added a touch of Artistry Signature Color Blush in Peachy Pink along the cheekbones. Lastly, he completed the look with a dusty-rose lip color. But, the true star of the look had to be the models' radiant skin.
To achieve this healthy glow, DiCecca prepped the models' skin with Artistry Hydra-V Vital Skin Serum Concentrate, and then applied Artistry Youth Xtend Lifting Smoothing Foundation. That is, of course, after finding the models' perfect match—which DiCecca has a brilliant trick for.
Think about what color jewelry you wear," he said. "If you wear only white metal, chances are you’re a cool undertone because warm metals don’t look good against your skin tone. If you look great in gold, I guarantee you, you probably have a warm undertone. And if you can wear both colored metals you’re probably a neutral undertone."
Once you’ve figured out your undertone, it’s onto finding the perfect shade. "The best thing to do is once you understand if you’re a warm, or cool, or neutral, choose a few colors and stripe them. I usually say three shades. The one that you blend in that literally disappears, and is not discernible by your eye, that’s the shade that’s yours," he said.
Who knew?! The key to finding our perfect foundation shade has been around neck this whole time―literally.
