Confirmed: Michelle Obama Can Rock Givenchy Couture
All the slow claps.
Did you watch the White House Correspondents' Dinner? ICYMI, here's all you need to know. One: Barack Obama may have a second life as a comedian, when his current gig wraps in the fall. Seriously. POTUS has wit. His final mic drop was deserved.
But, here's the important part (at least in the land of Lookbook): the event marked Michelle Obama's last appearance at the dinner, and—all jokes aside—she dressed for the occasion. Michelle has never disappointed in the style department, and her dazzling look at this weekend’s event was no exception. Let's break it down.
The first lady's golden confection was made by French fashion house Givenchy. While the label’s spring 2016 couture collection showed similar styles—note the sheer, sparkled overlay on this number—FLOTUS’s look was entirely custom made. With a beautifully embroidered neckline, Michelle’s gown was topped with sheer, beaded fabric that hung like an expertly cut cape, and twinkled as if on cue.
The first lady kept her accessories minimal, sporting only earrings and a few eye-catching rings. Her makeup followed suit, with a swipe of pale, glossy pink lipstick, a wash of subtle gold over her eyes, and eyebrows that were expertly groomed. Was this not the fashion equivalent of a mic drop? Sorry, Barack, hers needed no words.
