Bethenny Frankel Opens up About Mourning Dennis Shields: "One Day You Get Whacked with a Storm"
The RHONY mogul reflects on her one-time boyfriend's death and how she's coping.
Bethenny Frankel has never shied away from letting fans and viewers into the emotions she's felt in the wake of Dennis Shields' passing last August. With Season 11 of The Real Housewives of New York City currently underway, Bethenny is dealing with the loss of her on-again, off-again boyfriend in front of the world, and she's now sharing an update on how she is coping with the loss today. "Mourning is tricky business. It’s like the weather. There can be weeks [and] weeks of sunshine then one day you get whacked with a storm," she wrote on Twitter.
On the Season 11 premiere of RHONY (clip above), Bethenny was in the early stages of grief over his death last summer, revealing in the episode that following the tragedy "time is healing the wounds a little more than I thought. It's going faster. And then I feel guilty, like how could you be having fun when Dennis is dead? But I'm trying to do what he would want me to do."
As a testament to just how important Dennis was to the people who knew him, the Season 4 premiere of Billions included a tribute to him. Brian Koppelman, the series' co-creator and showrunner, was apparently a longtime friend of Dennis'. Afterward, Bethenny added on Twitter: "Yes. We are all connected and have a long history. He really is missed and touched so many people’s lives."
Fans can follow Bethenny's journey through this time in her life every Wednesday at 9/8c on RHONY. Preview, below.
