Top Chef's Chris Scott Dishes on the Foodie "Renaissance" of His Hometown Philadelphia
Philadelphia's food scene is on fire, and Top Chef's Chris Scott is here to tell you.
Bravo's Top Chef Season 15 finalist Chris Scott might have a restaurant in New York City... but the Amish soul food chef is actually a Philadelphia native. When The Feast toured Butterfunk Kitchen, his in-demand spot in Brooklyn, we asked the chef for his thoughts on the Philadelphia food scene — and needless to say, he had some thoughts on what is increasingly well known to be a hot food scene. He even gave us the lowdown on his unique Amish influences. Press play on the video above for his drool-worthy thoughts.
Hungry for a little summary? First off — hello — Philadelphia's regional palate spans far beyond cheesesteaks. "If you go to Philadelphia, and you say, 'Can I have a Philly cheesesteak?' You're obviously not from Philly," he told us.
A few chefs in particular — including his friend and mentor Kevin Sbraga — have played a major role in elevating the area's flavors. Watch Scott explain all things Philly himself in the video above then be sure to watch him react to the Top Chef finale, too.
