Maroon 5: Eating on the Road

Maroon 5 keyboardist Jesse Carmichael answers our questions about the band's Top Chef Masters appearance and reveals one of the band's food requests.

Bravotv.com: What do you usually eat when you're on the road? (both on the bus and at venues)
Jesse Carmichael: We try and eat as healthily as possible on the road... lots of balanced plates with the freshest food we can find (local and organic whenever possible). Also, every day we make a green juice with things like kale, spinach, broccoli, celery, parsley, cucumber, lemon, and apple, sometimes ginger too.

Bravotv.com: What's the best thing/worse thing you've ever had while on the road?
JC: The best thing I've had on the road is food from our amazing chef Nedra. The worst is some of the processed foods from different airports, but you gotta eat, so sometimes you just gotta pretend it's delicious.

Bravotv.com: When the Foo Fighters were on it was revealed that bacon is actually on their rider -- any fun food you can reveal about yours?
JC: Fresh coconuts

Bravotv.com: What surprised you most about the food you were presented with?
JC: The deliciousness of something simple like guacamole

Bravotv.com: You guys asked for very different things and sometimes disagreed on taste. Does that happen often?
JC: Yeah, there are a lot of different opinions in this band about a lot of things: food... music...,  but also a lot of common ground.

Bravotv.com: What dishes do you still remember? (For better or for worse...)
JC: I remember the spanikopita, and the seitan enchiladas, and the corn soup (and the overcooked pasta... lol.)Bravotv.com: The chefs really struggled cooking on the bus. Do you guys actually cook on the bus at all? Any tips you can share?
JC: Keep it simple. Salads and raw food are the easiest to make on the bus.

Bravotv.com: Where's your favorite place to tour because of the food in the area? (both in the U.S. And internationally?)
JC: Los Angeles has my favorite restaurants.Bangkok has great food, as do so many places around the world. It's fun to sample the local flavors.

Bravotv.com: How was your overall experience on 'Masters'? Any favorite moments?
JC: The whole experience was fun overall -- we're always hungry.

Bravotv.com: We're excited for your summer tour with Train! Can you share anything about it?
JC: This summer is going to be the best tour ever. We're always pushing ourselves to keep improving and bringing out more surprises for ourselves and the crowds.

Bravotv.com: Anything else you'd like to add?
JC: Thanks for everything. We love you.
