Fraternity Mom
Vicki Gunvalson describes her college visit (and her first keg stand!)
So, it didn't go as I'd planned. Donn and Briana were both going to be out of town that weekend and I had a frequent flier mile certificate. I thought it would be fun to go to a football game with Michael and spend some time with him. I hadn't seen Michael's new house, and I hadn't seen him for about three months. I missed him. My expectation was for him to stand up and give me a big hug. I stopped at the grocery store prior to going to his house and picked up some beer and chips and salsa — hoping that would take the "edge" off if he felt uncomfortable. The hard part for me was seeing Michael not jumping up and saying, "Hi mom"! He was in complete shock and didn't speak for about 20 minutes. He just said, "You should have called first." I said, "Then it wouldn't have been a surprise."
After we got through the initial shock, his girlfriend Lauren came up to me. She told me what an amazing job I had done raising Michael and what a great guy he is. I started crying because that is all a mother really wants to hear. That we've done a good job!
It all worked out eventually, and the rest of the trip was great! He invited me to go to the football game with him, and he even asked me to stand on the bleachers with him and his fraternity friends. Everyone was yelling at him "Hey Mike ... is that your mom?" He said yes and they thought it was so cool that I surprised him. And I did my first keg stand. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
The boys were short by $18 for a keg of beer, so I handed one of them a $20 and they were so happy. They came back and thought it was important to initiate me into the "fraternity" by holding my legs upside down and putting a beer nozzle in my mouth and counting. It was not something I'd like to do again, but felt it was important to Mike that I didn't make a big deal about it. I had fun bonding with his friends and Mike. It was a lot of fun. A memory that I think we both will have for a lifetime.
Mike is still dating Lauren. It has been almost a year now. She visited my family in Chicago in November and has come to our home in California a few times. Mike and she seem to have a very good relationship. As long as she makes Mike happy, I'm happy!
Briana is no longer an Aqua Angel model. Due to the fact she is extremely busy with her nursing program, there really was not time for this as well. She is extremely focused on her career, just got hired on at UCI as a nurses assistant and on Saturday we received word from her university that she made the DEAN'S LIST! I am so proud of Briana.
It's been ridiculously busy around here. Due to the request of over 2,000 emails I received from the show, they have been asking me how they can get into the insurance field. I have been having weekly conference calls for prospective agents, answering questions they may have on how to become licensed and how to be successful in the insurance selling industry.
Currently, I am putting the finishing touches on a complete turn-key system that will show agents step-by-step how to sell insurance from their home or office. This is really going to help agents reach their income potential, obtain goals and guide them the correct way on this amazing profession. It will be on my website within the next few weeks. I'm still working a "mile a minute", have an amazing family and feel blessed.
Looking forward to the upcoming months where I can go back to Havasu with our friends and enjoy our boat!
