B is for Bully, Not Baked Goods

New York is such a magnetic city. This episode you see a lot of me, and a lot happens. We move from the Hamptons and come back to New York. It's the first week of school for my girls and it's fashion week. I have been a model since I was 16, and I know a lot of people in the fashion industry. I graduated from Columbia University with a BA while I was modeling and was one of the editors who started GOTHAM magazine. After writing a book on American fashion called American Style (a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art), an exploration of American fashion from the turn of the century to now, to start the magazine ELLE Accessories, the first off spring of ELLE magazine. I love to support my friends in the fashion industry, and all aspects of fashion have been a big part of my adult life, as my ex-husband is one of the most well known fashion photographers in the world and was the Publication Director of ELLE magazine.

I invited all the women to Russell Simmons' men's wear show, and Ramona and Simon had a fight in the front row. It wasn't appropriate to fight publicly. Regardless, the show was great, and I was happy for Russell and his new line.

I then invited LuAnn to the Malo fashion show and we went to the store and picked something from the fall collection to wear to the show. LuAnn is very playful - she had a great time trying on all the clothes and had fun at the show. At the store, LuAnn invited me to come to Jill Zarin's charity meeting. I had only met Jill twice, so I found it awkward that she was asking me to support her charity.

I also interviewed women's fashion designer, Jill Stuart, before her show for a column I write in Hamptons Magazine. I then went to her show to support her. I have known Jill Stuart for a long time, and was excited to support her in any way. Bethenny was invited by Jill's publicist and was seated next to me and my friend Beth Ostrosky. I was trying to be polite with Bethenny and talk to her, but she is so insecure and tightly wound that all she can do is be combative. After a couple of minutes of trying to be polite, I focused on my friends and the fashion show.

I was then asked to attend the charity meeting. Before going to Jill's charity meeting, I had to pick up my children from school, take my children home, and I was on my way to another fashion show. I was surprised that Jill asked me to be on the committee and to support her charity even though she doesn't know me at all.

It was at the meeting that Bethenny attacked me again. According to Bethenny, I come from a "place of no." Her verbiage sounds like she can't get off the therapist's couch. I don't know Bethenny at all. I met her once for five seconds, and that does not a friend make. I've never seen her, interacted with her, or even heard her name before I was asked to be on the show. Her aggressive demeanor is odd, and clearly off-putting.

Bethenny has issues with me, but that doesn't mean I won't be polite. It's her way of getting more attention on the show since I am the new girl. I'd rather be a great mom, a great and loyal friend, drive a Dodge Ram, have a ton of fun, be authentic, and give you a sneak peak into my life than be aggressive with someone for a second more of air time.

As for charity, I only support one, The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Last year, I did run the New York City marathon to support the research for the neuroblastoma fund at Memorial Sloan Kettering. I am very selective and private. I prefer to be in the trenches than on an invitation.

After the meeting, I called Jill and spoke to her privately about how I could help her. She understood my position and was so gracious for any help. Jill's charm is contagious. I am very fond of Aly, as she knows, so I am happy to help her in any way possible. Different people live and help in different ways. That's what makes us so unique and special.
