Happy Birthday, Portia!
Kyle Richards talks about her daughter's birthday and wanting a baby at a young age.
This week's episode, you are still just getting to know all of us. I think of this week as "the calm before the storm." As you've seen in the previews, my confronting Camille next week doesn't go over too well. So this week I will enjoy watching; all of us interact with our families.
I thought the party Taylor threw for Kennedy was gorgeous. The flowers were incredible and what beautiful desserts!
We were so excited to celebrate Portia's birthday. Mauricio and I decided to have another baby when our eldest Farrah left for college. Most of our friends were just starting their families and here we were, in our 30s, and we had one of our children leaving us already. That is when we decided to expand our family.
I first knew I wanted to be a mom when my sister Kathy had her first baby, Paris. She was so beautiful and sweet. My sister was such a young mom (as was my mom), and she loved the help that I was more than willing to give. When I was 12 years old I would have sleepovers and sleep In Paris' room with her. When everyone was asleep, I would sneak a sleeping Paris out of her crib and lay her next to me. I can remember feeling so much love toward that baby that I would hold her and start to cry. I'm not sure I quite understood why at the time. I remember thinking, "I can't wait to have one of my own that I don't have to share with anyone." My wish came true when I was 19 and I had my first daughter, Farrah. I know I was young, but I had an incredible support system with my mom and sisters. Being a mother came naturally to me. A wife, not as much. I was too young to understand the work that goes into a marriage. Plus, my parents were divorced when I was little, so I didn't exactly have great role models. I was divorced at 21. To this day Farrah's father and I are very close, and we all consider him family.
When I met Mauricio In 1994, everything fell into place. A lot of you have asked me where he is from. Mauricio is from Mexico City. He's Jewish and actually has no Mexican blood (don't say that to him though. He considers himself Mexican) His grandparents are from Russia on his father's side and Greece and Lithuania on his mother's side. He asked me to convert to Judaism, and it was an easy decision. Growing up in Beverly Hills, everyone was Jewish, and I always secretly wanted to be. I loved his family, and most importantly, I was madly in love with him, and he loved both Farrah and me. We were fortunate enough to be blessed with three more daughters -- Alexia, Sophia, and Portia. Being a mom is something that I never take for granted. I love each and every moment with my girls. When Lisa commented at Portia's party, that she misses having little ones running around, I felt a little lump in my throat. How would that feel? How would I spend my days? I'm happy that I have a long time before I find out. However, I also know how quickly time passes. My kid's birthdays are of course about celebrating them, but also celebrating life, family, and friends. We had the best time. Although I'm sure Portia would have been just as happy at Chuck E. Cheese.
Some answers to your questions: I use Pantene on my hair. They changed the formula recently throwing me for a loop, but I've always used their deep clarifying shampoo and heaviest conditioner. If they don't come up with one as good as the one I used to use, I may have to make my own!
My favorite make-up: Best foundation for evening: Make Up Forever High Def foundation. For day, I use Laura Mercier tinted sunblock. The best!
Lip gloss: Mac color "Viva Glam 5", Mac color "Enchantress", Lipfusion Color "Sun"
Best mascara: Loreal Voluminous. LOVE.
