City of Light
Rodger talks Fashion Week and "getting spiffy" in his fave city!
Team RZ found themselves on a little European trip to Paris for the Fall 2009 ready-to-wear collections. Rachel and I typically go to Paris not just for the shows but for the Couture collections. Not to sound snobby, but I prefer the Couture shows over ready-to-wear because the shows and the clothing are seriously over the top – like watching five minutes of theater – which is great for people with short attention spans. Also, the Couture shows are much more mellow in terms of crowds and drama since so many less people come to see those shows.
I was actually really looking forward to having Taylor come along, but as usual, she became a martyr and stayed back. In many ways it worked out great, as Brad is the perfect companion for Rachel when they need to do the hardcore fashion thing. Brad’s just happy to have a chance to wear new outfits whereas Taylor needs a bit more purpose in her day to day and would have probably been bored.
I on the other hand just love soaking up the city. I don’t need anything to do except walk the city. I never get sick of it – it’s so beautiful and I’m blown away every time I go. Typically, I catch a few shows to get my fill of fashion and then the nights are a blast as everyone has dinners and parties. I also have to admit that living in LA doesn’t exactly give you any reason to dress up at all, so I enjoy getting spiffy a couple of times a year when in Paris. It just has that effect. Everyone is so well dressed – even the cab drivers are in suit and tie. It just makes things seem so much more civilized. The Europeans have somehow figured out how to sleep late, eat whatever they want and still look good, work less than 40 hours a week and take two months vacation. I’m jealous!
