Should I Stay Or Should I Go?
Rodger Berman discusses the sacrifices Rachel Zoe makes for her work.
My blog is aptly named for Rachel's decision on whether or not to attend her uncle's funeral. Just to give the viewers some background, Rachel and I did go to see her uncle about a week prior to his death to say goodbye, as it was pretty clear that he wasn't going to make it.
She's a good person, and had we not said goodbye, she would have been on a plane regardless of her work commitments.
That being said, it was still an extremely difficult decision. Her aunt ultimately dissuaded her from going, so she didn't.
This was a pretty good example of the types of sacrifices Rachel has made for her career. I've watched it first hand and trust me, she's given up so much to be where she is. Some of it has been at my expense, but for the most part it's been her weekends, her vacations and her own personal time. Now, on to the potential anniversary party. It's not that Rachel didn't mean well. She's been speaking about renewing our vows at 10 years for the past few years. As her husband, I was touched that she was so hell-bent on professing her love for me again.
Unfortunately, Rachel sometimes underestimates the time (and expense) of throwing a party. Anyone that's even had 10 people over for the Superbowl will know that it takes a fair amount of time and work. Now think about throwing a party for 200 people, complete with invites, a guest list, music, flowers etc. Now add to the fact that the party would need to be thrown together in a week, during the busiest week of her life. Not a pretty picture! If we had gone forward, Rachel would have leaned heavily on everyone around her, especially me, which is one of the main reasons why I wanted no part of it. Plus, it would have added to her stress, which is something I try and alleviate as much as possible.
We had a great time at our anniversary dinner with just the two of us. Oh, and Palm Springs was great.
