Oh my God, what week! Our first millionaire came to me via an old client, Mitch Berger. Mitch is an NFL player who met his wife Mandi when I set them up together. He recommended his friend Fiona Forbes, a Canadian talk show host. She’s intelligent, beautiful and there’s no reason she’s not with some great guy. But when I meet her, she’s kind of shy and I think she’s just out of practice. But I have a some ideas on how to get her to meet some men without any pressure.

Meanwhile, my other client was a complete handful. Marisa liked him because he was from Cleveland, where she’s from. But I took one look at Jack Roddie and I knew he was going to be trouble. He’s 57, but looks 10 years older than that, try grandpa, like 87. He’s dating girls in their twenties and if I can’t get a client like this to stop dating younger women, he’s not going to end up in a relationship. So I get him to promise to choose someone in his own age group. Well that didn’t work or go very well. . .

I decided on a marriage mirror for two of my clients. That’s when I interview daters for them and they’re watching from the other room and helping me pick. I thought it would help settle Fiona’s nerves, not having to have a big mixer. That would overwhelm her and it’s not a bad idea for jack so he can’t scare the girls away.
Well this turns out to be a good idea for Fiona. She picks two English guys and finally pares it down to James. He’s a nice guy, handsome as hell, and he will be a great starter date for Fiona. But with Jack, I knew I had to test him, to make sure he wasn’t still trying to go for younger women. So among the age appropriate women we interviewed, I stuck Marisa in there and she pretended she was a dater. Well, the trap worked a little too well. He wouldn’t stop asking about Marisa, for like an hour. I eventually got him to choose a lovely girl named Anette, and they went out on their master date.
So Fiona does great. James takes her to Ojai: hiking, wine tasting. And she loves it. I don’t know if it’s a love connection, but they certainly parted as friends and Fiona doesn’t feel as shy and uncomfortable going out on a date anymore.
But Jack is another story entirely. Look, maybe you just can’t teach an old guy new tricks. I saw he was trying. He rented out a yacht. Good. He had flowers and sushi for the girl. Good. But in the end, he only talked about his-freakin’-self. And stuff like that wasn’t even appropriate on a date. You have to bring the romance, you have to talk about what the girl’s interested in. It just didn’t work.
At the end, Jack even told Anette that she wasn’t his first choice. Can you believe he said that? She was pissed off, she’ll never seen him again. And to be honest, I hope I don’t either!
