Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Tasted a Royal Wedding Cake — But It's Not What You Think
All in all, the experience was quite... pungent.
It's rumored that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will cut into a banana-flavored cake at their royal wedding in May. So, the couple's "cake" tasting in Wales earlier this week wasn't exactly what we were expecting. As in, there was a lot less fruit involved... and a lot more pungent aromas.
On January 18, the couple visited Cardiff Castle and came face-to-face with a traditional Welsh confection. A towering wedding cake spelled out "Congratulations" in Welsh, and its layers contained products from the Snowdonia Cheese Company. (Spoiler alert: The Wales company specializes in cheese, and not cake, as we know it.)
According to the cheese company's social-media feed, the future royal was touched by the savory gift. "Oh my goodness. How sweet is that?," Markle is said to have exclaimed. She then gamely tasted layers of the (actually quite savory) cake, and particularly enjoyed an aged cheddar that was part of the festive treat.
Rumor has it that Markle called the "Black Bomber," a very mature cheddar, "really delicious." The creamy confection also contained smoked cheddar, cheddar with garlic and herbs, and the English cheese Red Leicester.
Hmm, perhaps the couple will need a third wedding cake in the mix? Call us cheesy, but we think it's a great idea!
