Diet Coke Has Four New "Millennial Pandering" Flavors on the Way — Sort of Like La Croix for Cola
Soon you'll be able to Get a Taste.
Diet Coke may be the newly discovered secret to ridiculously long life — and this week brings even more refreshing news (see what we did there?) for the brand: Soon the company will unveil four new flavors of the soda, which was created in 1982. They'll include Ginger Lime, Feisty Cherry, Zesty Blood Orange, and Twisted Mango.
According to a company-generated story on Coca-Cola Journey, the company got the opinions of 10,000 Diet Coke drinkers across the nation in order to help develop the winning flavors. "From these insights, Coca-Cola’s R&D team developed and tested more than 30 Diet Coke flavor combinations, featuring tropical, citrus, and even botanical notes."
"We’re modernizing what has made Diet Coke so special for a new generation," said Rafael Acevedo, Coca-Cola North America’s group director for Diet Coke. "The same unapologetic confidence still comes through and the same great Diet Coke taste people love is here to stay, but we’re making the brand more relatable and more authentic.”'
Not everyone is welcoming this change with the most open of arms, it should be noted. Some are already snarking on the new flavor release, even though they won't be in stores for at least another week — Eater calls it "fruit-flavored Millennial pandering at its best" that's chasing the popularity of the trendy fruit-essenced sparkling water La Croix.
