Why Did Mariah Carey Steal Meryl Streep's Seat at the Golden Globes?
Awards shows can make even the biggest divas a little frenzied.
The Golden Globes is meticulously seated so that A-listers get the maximum camera time and proximity to the winners' stage — people can't just go sitting wherever they like or they'll majorly upset the careful balance. Mariah Carey learned this firsthand on Sunday night, as she amusingly reported on Twitter.
"Got caught mingling on the way to the loo during a commercial break.. took the first seat available, happens to be right next to Steven Spielberg," she wrote. "Cut to next commercial break, guess who comes back to her seat... (me) Dear Meryl, please forgive me!!! (MERYL STREEP) You can take my seat any time!"
Mariah wasn't the only one starstruck at the Golden Globes; so, too, was Meryl, who gushed about Oprah Winfrey's inspirational acceptance speech to the Washington Post after the show.
“She launched a rocket tonight. I want her to run for president,” she said. “I don’t think she had any intention [of declaring]. But now she doesn’t have a choice.”
