Whitney Rose Gets Candid on "Up and Down" Relationship with Justin Rose (EXCLUSIVE)
RHOSLC's Whitney Rose reflected on her 15-year marriage in honor of her and Justin's upcoming anniversary.
Whitney Rose is set to celebrate her 15-year wedding anniversary on November 22, and she's sharing some of the biggest lessons she's learned along the way.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member married Justin Rose in 2009, and the spouses took kids Bobbie and Brooks Rose to Cabo to celebrate the milestone occasion. A few weeks before they left, Whitney chatted exclusively with The Daily Dish about their marriage.
"Marriage is up and down. Relationships are up and down. I think the key is communication," she explained on November 6.
The PRISM jewelry co-founder noted that the show can magnify some of her and Justin's marital issues. Over the years, the pair has tried to spice up their romance and dealt with the fallout from Justin losing his job.
"The spikes are bigger, the dips are lower. But the show has really taught us the importance of communication," she continued. "Because a lot of the times we’re misplacing things on each other that have nothing to do with each other. So I think communication is so important in marriage."
Whitney went on to compare marriage to reading a book.
"You’re not always gonna be on the same page, but you’re lucky if you’re in the same chapter. Just stay in the same book. Like, just as long as you’re staying in the same book, if you’re lucky stay in the same chapter. And the moment that you’re on the same page like cherish those," she added. "'Cause those moments are what keep you going."
Whitney Rose shares her regrets about her marriage
As Whitney is approaching her milestone anniversary, she feels very different than she did when the two first got married.
"It's wild, 'cause I was so young when we got engaged. I was 22; I was a baby," Whitney told The Daily Dish. "But when I met Justin it wasn’t just meeting a man... It was an instant like soul connection, where I knew that this person was gonna be in my life. I just didn’t know how."
When the couple tied the knot, Whitney said that she tried to be the perfect "1950s housewife." If she could give her 22-year-old self any advice, she said that it would be to "make it 50-50 from the beginning."
"Now we are like truly partners, like he’s my best friend. We make decisions together," she continued. "Like I feel like I have just as much authority as he does in the relationship."
Today, the mom of two and her husband "do everything together," and she revealed yet another "secret to [their] marriage: "We make time for each other."
