What Do the Housewives Look Like Off-Camera?
Who thinks they look "scary" when not filming and who still feels "beautiful."
When it comes to style, the Housewives are known for big hair, expert contouring, lots of lashes and, of course, those elaborate reunion gowns. But what do they look like when we don't see them? Allure recently caught up with several of our favorite Bravolebs and got them to dish on their off-camera beauty and fashion.
Real Housewives of New York City returning star Bethenny Frankel described the way she looks when dropping daughter Bryn off at school as "very scary." "It's a disaster. I'm braless in pajamas," she tells the mag. But priorities are priorities. "You've got to get there on time, so I don't care what I look like."
Bethenny's RHONY costar Heather Thomson also tones it down when not filming their series. "Yes, there is a difference off camera, much less hair and makeup. I'm a pretty natural girl. I like to dress up, but on camera, you won't see me in as many ripped up jeans and Converse sneakers as I wear in real life."
But for some Housewives, seeing themselves on television has overhauled their style both on and off camera.
RHONY's Kristen Taekman says after evolving her look since joining the show, "Now I'm the Housewife I've always wanted to be." She tells the mag, "I had to take the hair and makeup up a notch. I wasn't doing red-carpet events when I was just a housewife. But personally, I'm living my fashion dream on camera."
Perhaps no Bravoleb's transformation has been as evident as Don't Be Tardy star Kim Zolciak-Biermann's—and that's based on her wigs alone. Kim acknowledged just how far she's come saying, "I got better, more expensive wigs and better makeup artists once I was on the show." Still, Kim feels confident even without her favorite accessory. "As soon as the cameras are off, I take off the hair and the makeup and just relax. And I feel just as beautiful that way."
