Tom Schwartz Reveals Surprising Career Pivot With Schwartz and Sandy's Closing

Vanderpump Rules' Tom Schwartz has already mapped out his next professional move: "Super excited."

By Shannon Raphael

Tom Schwartz only announced that Schwartz & Sandy's would be closing on November 25, but he already knows what his next professional move will be.

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Peacock and the Bravo app.

After confirming the news about the bar in a joint interview with business partner Tom Sandoval to PEOPLE, the Vanderpump Rules cast member said that he is going to "take a beat to recalibrate, then hit the ground running."

Hitting the ground running means working on something with Podcast One called Detox / Retox. The project is expected to launch in 2025, though he did not share any other details about what it entails.

"I’m super excited about that," Tom Schwartz continued. "I'd also like to get behind the camera and produce some shows."

The Winter House alum is starting to feel more settled in his personal life as well. In addition to being in a relationship with Sophia Skoro, Tom Schwartz recently moved to a new apartment.

"I just moved into a new townhome, and for the first time in a while, I feel at home — so cozy," he continued to the outlet.

Would Tom Schwartz ever open another bar?

Though Schwartz & Sandy's didn't work out, Tom Schwartz isn't completely disillusioned with the idea of having another bar someday.

“We’ll still be holding things down at TomTom," he said, referring to his and Tom Sandoval's business venture with Lisa Vanderpump. "Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I'd still like to open a little dive bar someday."

Why is Schwartz & Sandy's closing?

In part, due to financial difficulties, according to Tom Schwartz. As he explained, "Deciding to close was one of the hardest decisions we’ve made. We agonized over it for quite some time because we truly believe it’s a great bar, still ripe with potential. Unfortunately, the current climate for this business is pretty rough."

"Recovering from all the negativity post-scandal wasn’t easy, and the slimmer margins post-COVID made it even harder to bounce back," he continued. "There’s not a lot of room for error in the restaurant/bar business."

Schwartz added, "It’s already a tough business, and the damage from relentless negative press over the last year made it even harder,” Schwartz says. “It was difficult not to feel resentful and bitter, but eventually, we had to let it go — no more replaying what went wrong."

Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval initially announced that their bar would be closing after two years of business in joint Instagram statements on November 25.

"There's no easy way to say this but after careful consideration, Greg, Tom and I made the decision to close Schwartz and Sandy's by the end of the year," Tom Schwartz shared in his statement via Instagram on November 25. "This was not an easy conclusion. So this is our farewell tour. Let Tom & I host your holiday parties, birthdays, even a funeral for your lizard (rip Daug). It's a celebration so many of us working here have poured our hearts into over the last few years. Let's end this era on a high note and come on by, bring your friends, toast to the upcoming holidays, and let's manifest together a kick-ass New Year."
