Todd Chrisley Details the Incident That May Lead to Possible Federal Indictment Charges for Tax Evasion
The Chrisley Knows Best patriarch and his wife, Julie Chrisley, detailed the events that could lead to the charges.
Todd Chrisley took to Instagram to detail an incident involving a former employee that could lead to potential indictment on tax fraud charges for the Chrisley Knows Best patriarch and his wife, Julie Chrisley.
“I’ve never talked about this publicly before, but there’s been a cloud hanging over Julie and me and our entire family for the past seven years. It all started back in 2012, when we discovered that a trusted employee of ours had been stealing from us big time,” he wrote on Instagram, noting that while he wouldn't use the forum to “go into details,” he claimed the case “involved all kinds of really bad stuff like creating phony documents, forging our signatures, and threatening other employees with violence if they said anything... We even discovered that he illegally bugged our home."
He alleged, “Needless to say, we fired the guy and took him to court — and that’s when the real trouble started. To get revenge, he took a bunch of his phony documents to the U.S. Attorney’s office and told them we had committed all kinds of financial crimes, like tax evasion and bank fraud. That got their attention all right, but once we had a chance to explain who he was and what he’d done to us, they realized it was all a bunch of nonsense and they sent him on his way.”
Todd then wrote that the former employee “persuaded a different set of investigators at the U.S. Attorney’s office not only to reopen the case but also to grant him immunity from prosecution for his own crimes and bring charges against us."
He continued, “As a result, it looks like later this week Julie and I are going to be named in a federal indictment charging us with tax evasion and probably a bunch over other financial crimes as well,” he concluded. “I’m telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of. Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.”
After quoting scripture, Todd added that "the truth will prevail and the charges against us will be exposed for the outrageous lies they are."
Todd also thanked fans for their support in the caption: "Thank you all for your love and support. Our family will forever be grateful. God bless you all!"
And he's definitely feeling the love as The Real Housewives of Orange County alum Heather Dubrow offered her support in the comments section: "Sending you love and support [Todd]!!!"
In May 2018, Todd spoke to The Daily Dish about living in the public eye. "I think for us, as a family, I tried to raise my children that other people's opinions of you are really not your business," he said at the time. "People are going to talk about you whether it's good, bad, or indifferent. We love in this country to build people up, to elevate people, just so we can tear them down just because we love the train wreck. We love the destruction. And I have told my children every day, 'Let's make sure we're not a part of the destruction. Let's make sure we don't give them what they're hoping they're going to have to use against us.' Now are we perfect? We're not. Do my children make mistakes? Yes. I make mistakes. Know that you heard it here first: Todd Chrisley made a mistake. But at the end of the day our recovery time is much better than most."
