Tish Cyrus on Her Ups and Downs with Billy Ray Cyrus: "We've Publicly Gone Through Stuff and Made It Work"

Nearly 25 years of marriage is no small feat for anyone in show biz, but Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus have managed to make it work. The couple have definitely defied the odds for a celebrity couple, and daughter Brandi Cyrus has a theory for how that happened.

"She has taught my dad to say all the right things at all the right times," the Cyrus vs. Cyrus: Design and Conquer designer joked to The Daily Dish about her mother. "That's the key to marriage: Just agree with your wife at all times."

Her mom and Cyrus vs. Cyrus co-star agreed, in jest. "It's true. We just saw him do an interview and he was just like, 'Mama's right and she really is,' and all this stuff," she said. "And I'm like, 'Great, that's the answer.'" 

All joking aside, Tish and Billy Ray, who have five kids, have had some very public downs in addition to ups. They have publicly confirmed divorces twice (in 2010 and 2013), only to call off the decision both times. But, looking back, Tish has no regrets about having their marriage in the spotlight.

"But, also, I do think that marriage is hard work. And I think a lot of people, when you go through struggles and difficult times, that people throw in the towel a little too easy," she said. "And I think that any relationship — whether it's marriage or family, it doesn't matter — it's you truly do have to take care of it and nurture and really work hard at relationships. And that's not always easy, especially in the business that we're in. So I think it's a lot just dedication and communication, which I'm not very good at."

It's a message she hopes her kids use and take into their own relationships. "And I'm the boss and that's great and I'm so proud to have been in the business and to have been married for so long. And I hope that it, something that they've taken away from [it] is that you just have to work at relationships and just not give up," Tish said. "And our family is everything to me, my kids, and I'm proud of the family and the relationship and how hard we've worked. We've publicly gone through stuff and made it work. And I'm so glad that we did, 'cause our family so strong and so amazing. I'm blessed."
