Three Reasons You Should See The Movie Despicable Me

The cartoon-animated feature film hits big screens this Friday, July 9.

It's no secret that, as a cable network focused on reality TV, Bravo suffers from a lack of cartoon-animated content. In that spirit, our partner Universal Pictures has graciously picked up the slack with the amazing motion-animated movie, Despicable Me, hitting big screens this Friday, July 9.

The story follows super-villain Gru in his latest, most ambitious heist ever: stealing the Earth's daughter orb: the Moon! The only problem? Three adorable orphan sisters have showed up at his door, and he has to figure out what to do with those kiddies while directing his clueless little henchmen (called minions!) to do battle with various "good guy" arch-nemeses.

Here's three reasons to see the movie, based on the following official HD trailer:

1. MINIONS!

Their attempts at speaking English are adorable, they make cute squeegie sounds when they bounce against each other, and their main method of attack seems to be shooting fellow minions through mini-bazookas.

2. Gru uses lots of cool gadgets in questionably despicable contexts.

When there's a long line at a coffeeshop, Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) freezes all the customers in front of him and proceeds directly to the counter for his coffee and pastry. He also wields a flamethrower gun with six mini-fireballs fueling a big central fireball; a plethora of air, land, and sea vehicles; as well as various types of bazookas, including the aforementioned ones that shoot Minions at things.

3. The three orphan girls create family drama, just like on Bravo shows.

On Kathy Griffin's My Life on the D-List, the red-haired super-star is constantly troubled -- and held back from achieving her A-List dreams -- by having to take care of her mother Maggie. In Despicable Me, bald super-villain Gru has to entertain the three orphan girls he inherits, which might throw a wrench into his plan to take over the Moon.
