The Spice Girls Are Reuniting... Again
Because the music you loved in the '90s will never go out of style.
Time to get with our friends... again! Pop-feminist supergroup The Spice Girls are planning on (re-)reuniting if reports from Page Six are to be believed. In honor of the 21st anniversary of the release of hit single "Wannabe," Mel B, Emma Bunton, and Geri Horner had hoped to plan a grand celebration but nothing really got off the ground. Now, it seems like things are finally coming together and we might be seeing a reboot of the greatest girl group of our generation. “We’re not re-forming immediately, but in the near future,” Geri told The Sun.
After Sporty (Melanie Chisholm) and Posh (Victoria Beckham) showed no interest in getting back together, Scary (Mel B), Baby (Emma), and Ginger (Geri) had attempted to create an entirely new band called GEM. But things fell apart when Geri got pregnant with her second child in late 2016. Mel B's now-defunct marriage to Stephen Belafonte may have also gotten in the way of shows with her old gang. “Stephen was always an unnerving presence," a source told The Sun. "Now he’s out of the way, fun will return."
The exact line up of the resurrected fivesome remains a question. Victoria Beckham has casted doubt on the viability of another proper reunion before: “There won’t be a reunion because I think that when we performed at the Olympics it was so great and that was us celebrating everything that we’d achieved," she had said on TODAY in March. The Sun has suggested that Beckham has worked towards preventing the rest of the crew from performing Spice Girls classics in the future. It's unclear where Mel C stands as of now.
Amongst the many people interested in the reunion is Prince William, who at the official opening of The Global Academy in Hayes apparently had asked Emma specifically if he could expect to see everyone together again . "Only if you come and see us!" she replied coyly.
The Spice Girls' message of Girl Power has lived on way past the life of the group itself, and we're just happy to see them coming back in whatever form in may be.
