Teresa Gives an Update on Her Relationship with Joe Giudice’s Family Members
The RHONJ cast member also revealed where her husband, Luis “Louie” Ruelas, stands with her ex-brother-in-law.
Though it may sound uncomfortable (and perhaps unrealistic), maintaining a relationship with an ex-partner’s family is not an impossible feat. Just ask Teresa Giudice.
In the July 19 episode of her Namaste B$tches podcast, The Real Housewives of New Jersey mom shared an update on where she stands with Pete Giudice, the only brother of her ex-husband, Joe Giudice. Teresa admitted she had not seen her former in-laws in quite some time, but she reconnected with them at Gia Giudice’s college graduation back in May.
Teresa on Joe Giudice’s brother: “He’s like my best friend”
“It felt so normal, like how it used to feel,” she told her co-host, Melissa Pfeister. “With Pete… he’s like my best friend. I grew up with him. It’s like we picked up right where we left off, which is awesome. Same thing with his wife, Sheila.”
Teresa continued: “The first time I saw them was at Gia’s college graduation, and you know, that was the first time I saw them in a long time. And it was fine. And then I saw them again at Gabriella’s high school graduation, and that was great. And then it got even easier.”
Louie’s Relationship with Joe’s Brother
Teresa said her husband, Luis “Louie” Ruelas, immediately hit it off with Pete — so much so that they’re now in constant communication.
“[They] talk all the time,” she added. “It was great.”
Melissa questioned whether Joe felt some type of way about Teresa’s relationship with his only brother, suggesting he may feel betrayed or even a little jealous.
“Is Joe ever like, ‘Dude, Pete, you’re on my team’?” she asked. “Or does he welcome this?”
“No, [Joe] welcomes this. It’s all good,” Teresa insisted. “Joe’s family is an amazing family. They really are. They’re all about family. They would never hurt each other in any way. No matter how much money somebody offered them, they would never hurt each other. That’s not how Joe’s family rolls… It’s been great. The kids are so happy.”
Teresa’s former in-laws attend Gia and Gabriella’s graduation party
Teresa confirmed her former in-laws also attended Gia and Gabriella’s graduation party along with their daughters. The Jersey mom said Pete and Sheila didn’t expect to go to the event, as she had only invited her daughters’ friends. However, Louie asked the couple to join the celebration when he spotted them dropping off Teresa’s nieces.
Elsewhere in the episode, Teresa reflected on the importance of a chosen family and how it’s sometimes necessary to cut certain relatives out of one’s life.
“You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends,” she said. “Sometimes your family is not happy for you, so that’s why you need to X those people out. And the thing is, you don’t even need people to be happy for you. You should be happy for yourself, and people that love you and that are in your life will be happy for you and you’ll see that on your own.”
