Teddi Mellencamp Explains She's "Taken Accountability" Over Edwin Arroyave Divorce
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum gave an update on her headspace after filing for divorce as she's "cried and mourned."
Teddi Mellencamp is giving herself permission to "grow and thrive" amid her divorce from her husband, Edwin Arroyave. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum announced that she filed for divorce from her husband of over a decade on Nov. 2. And now, she's revealing how she's been doing in the aftermath of their split and the end of their marriage.
Teddi took to Instagram on Sunday, Nov. 24, where she posted a video in which she's running on the treadmill to Christina Aguilera's "Fighter." The mom to three kids then wrote a very inspirational message over the video, noting that she is ready for her "peace and happiness," and took to the caption, where she said that she's "giving myself permission to grow and thrive."
"The only person who can change your life is you," she wrote over the video. "We have 2 options, pretend to be a victim or stand up and fight for yourself. We all deserve peace and happiness."
She continued, noting that she has spent a lot of time thinking about her relationship. "I have cried and mourned," she wrote. "I have taken accountability and apologized for things I have done wrong...Now I have given myself permission to grow and thrive."
"I have decided to not pander to the media and tell my side because in the big scheme of things," she added. "Click bait means nothing and of course 3 sides to every story. How I can stand up and show up for the people that do matter does. This is called being an adult. This is what saying it with my full chest means."
What has Teddi Mellencamp said about her divorce from Edwin Arroyave?
As previously stated, Teddi first revealed that she was filing for divorce on Instagram on Nov. 2 and posted a statement announcing the news. "My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter," she wrote in the first statement.
"Making a public statement is not something I wanted to do but in an effort to protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I felt being open, honest, and vulnerable was the best path forward."
Teddi then continued this streak of vulnerability, taking to her Instagram Stories in the following weeks to share inspirational messages about healing and taking care of herself. But, on a Nov. 5 episode of her podcast, Two T's in a Pod, Teddi revealed that she would not be publicly sharing any details about her divorce.
"At this point, I'm obviously only going to share what I share on social media, and I just am trying — I don't even know how to say this eloquently — but I am trying to make sure that my kids' privacy is protected right now," she said.
The next week, on Nov. 13, Teddi took to the podcast where she said that there are "multiple sides to every story," but she was just trying to "move along" in the divorce.
"Like there's so much that I am not ready to process or talk about or involve the kids in," she said. "But, you know, I'm sure with time there will be more conversation. And I hope in this time we can just understand, even saying that much was a lot for this moment."
Kyle Richards and Erika Jayne weigh in on Teddi Mellencamp's divorce
Kyle Richards and Erika Jayne have both shared their support to their former cast member as she goes through this hard time. In an interview with E! News in early November, Kyle said that she "wasn't surprised" by Teddi's divorce because they speak to each other every single day.
"I'm sad," she said. "I see two people that I know once really loved each other very much — and I'm sure still do — and have this beautiful family and you see them go through something like this. I feel like we're getting just way too comfortable seeing this now in our group."
Erika told The Daily Dish on Nov. 14 that she felt "sadness" for her friend. "I know that these things aren't easy, and I'm friends with Teddi," she said. "And I want nothing but the best for her and her children."
