Tamra Barney's Medical Emergency: 'I Thought I Was Going to Die'

The Orange County star is recovering after being rushed to the hospital.

By Mike Hess

Tamra Barney says her life flashed before her eyes when a searing pain in her stomach forced her to be rushed to the hospital this past week, and her quick response likely saved her from some major health problems.

The Real Housewives of Orange County star detailed the scary ordeal to the National Enquirer, telling them that recently she'd been having stomach pains, which she thought was likely an ulcer. "It was around 7pm Monday [August 27] Eddie was gone to a meeting and I was home alone sitting on the couch drinking a cup of coffee when a sharp pain hit me like a ton of bricks; at first I thought it would go away, but it didn’t," Tamra says.

The next thing she knew, she was doubled over and on the phone with 911, in such pain she could barely speak. "It was the worst pain I’ve ever suffered in my life, it was 100 times more painful than childbirth," she says.

After being rushed to the hospital, Tamra underwent emergency surgery not for an ulcer, but a hernia "the size of a dollar in my abdomen wall that my bowels were entering through," according to Tamra.

She's expected to make a full recovery and be released hopefully this weekend, but it's an experience that she'll never forget: "I thought I was going to die," she said.
