It's Official: Justin Timberlake Landed Every Musician's Dream Gig (Again)
The singer confirmed that he will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl LII Halftime Show.
Finally, those of us who aren't exactly into sports have a reason to tune into the 2018 Super Bowl — and we're not talking about the commercials. On Sunday, Justin Timberlake made the announcement we've all been waiting for: he confirmed that he'll headline the major game's halftime show.
Enlisting some help from his pal Jimmy Fallon, the singer made the announcement via a short video he posted to Instagram.
See what he did there?
Now, this isn't the first time J.T. will take football's biggest stage — it will actually be his third time (he previously performed at Super Bowls XXXV and XXXVIII and has the distinction of having the most appearances by an individual entertainer on the Super Bowl halftime stage). The last time he performed, in 2004, he and Janet Jackson made headlines for the incident that has since gone on to earn the title: "Nipplegate." (Oh yeah, that!) Since the memorable wardrobe malfunction, Jackson has been banned from ever performing at the halftime show again.
Wait, didn't it take two to expose that nipple? The fact that Jackson is blacklisted from the show, but Timberlake has been asked back to headline it, seemed blatantly unfair to some internet users. And on Sunday evening, fans were quick to voice their opinions.
All kinds of memes sprang up last night, but we'll just leave you with our favorite. Who can resist a little Prince sass on a Monday?
Super Bowl LII will air on NBC on February 4, 2018.
