Stassi Schroeder's Boyfriend Beau Clark Has Had Some Interesting Jobs in the Entertainment Industry
Beau Clark dishes on where he's from, how he ended up in Los Angeles, and his career.
Vanderpump Rules isn't the first time Stassi Schroeder's boyfriend Beau Clark has appeared in front of a camera. Not only did we recently learn that he was featured in the music video for Lifehouse's 2005 hit "You and Me," but he also starred in a short film called The Loneliness of the Long Distance Dreamer in 2010. And guess who his co-star was? Kristen Doute.
In fact, within the first 20 seconds of the film, which is about a man who chases after the woman of his dreams in his actual dreams, we see Beau and Kristen's characters locking lips. "I did a short film, and it was probably 10, 11 years ago and I never saw it for some reason. I randomly bumped into the director again, and long story short, he sent me the link for the short and I was watching it — this was probably two years ago — and it opens up with me making out with some chick. I’m like, 'That mouth looks really familiar.' And then I fast-forwarded it to the end, and I go to the credits and it says, 'Kristen Doute.' I’m like, 'Holy mother sh--balls. That’s frickin’ awkward,'" Beau told The Daily Dish over the phone during an interview in January, adding that Kristen had a similar response when he sent her the link to the video. "It was a funny moment. And then nowadays, people say the Vanderpump people are so [incestuous], that’s why it was so easy for me to slide into the group, because I already made out with Doute 10 years ago."
When Beau first arrived in L.A. more than 15 years ago, he wasn't initially planning on pursuing a career in acting. "I came out here to direct and get into casting back when I was 22. But then when you’re in the room and someone was like, 'Hey Beau, do you want to do this part for X amount of money?' I’m like, oh yes, because that’s a crapload of money. So that’s why I randomly did acting," he explained. "If you Google me, there’s crappy D-movies that I did, but I’ve been in casting for so long, that’s my job, that’s what I love to do, but I’m not gonna say no if someone wants me to do a Cialis commercial or something."
Beau, who now works in commercial casting, has lived in L.A. longer than anywhere else since he moved around the country a lot growing up. "I was born in Fort Lauderdale, then moved to Italy until I was about four-ish, and then my mom got remarried to my dad from Nashville and we moved around a lot," he said. "So I have a gypsy kind of life."
So when it came time for Beau to pursue his own path, he wasn't afraid to start a new adventure far away from home. "I was doing photography in school and got some awards when they do the high school photography stuff, and I was like, 'Oh, I like making stupid videos.' I was like, 'I want to go to a school to learn how to act or to learn to work with directors or actors or direct them better,'" he recalled. "And I went to New York for this summer program in acting. New York was too close to home, so basically we packed everything and moved to L.A., me and another buddy, and just sprouted a life here. It’s been great ever since."
Despite Beau's familiarity with show business, he wasn't exactly jumping at the chance to appear on Vanderpump Rules once he started dating Stassi, especially since he said he had never seen the show before their relationship began. "Oh, I said, 'Hell no. Hell no!' Back when we were just casually dating like a year-and-a-half ago when Kristen and Katie [Maloney-Schwartz] first introduced us, [Stassi] said at one point, like on our fourth or fifth date, she was like, 'Do you think this is something that you would ever do?' And I was like, 'No. All you guys ever do is get drunk and be ---holes to each other,'" Beau recalled, but then he said that he "slowly eased into it." "But it was basically when I made that decision with Stassi, and I was like, “All right, this is your job, this is your life, and if this means something to you then I will try to do my best and I will be there as much as you want. So that’s what happened."
Appearing on a national TV show, walking red carpets with Stassi, and doing interviews is all still new to Beau, but he's thankful he doesn't have to go through it alone. "It’s different, that’s for sure. It’s different, it’s fun, it’s awkward, it’s exciting, it’s awkward. I’ve always been able to go with the flow with everything in life, [but] usually with the red carpet stuff that’s very [nerve-wracking]," he said. "But I’m just going with it. I don’t know, I’m going with it, and [Stassi] holds my hand, so I feel like she’s my training wheels so it’s helping me get through this. I have a great partner, that’s for sure."
