Southern Charm New Orleans' Reagan Charleston and Jeff Charleston Have Separated
The New Orleans Charmers got married in 2012.
Reagan and Jeff Charleston are starting their next chapter apart. The Southern Charm New Orleans couple has decided to separate after nearly six years of marriage.
"Jeff and I have decided to separate and are devoting time to re-establishing a great friendship while focusing on personal growth apart," Reagan said in a statement to PEOPLE. "We are looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for us."
In Season 1 of Southern Charm New Orleans, which just aired its finale on Sunday night, Reagan and Jeff gave fans a glimpse into their marriage, which included an idyllic life at their picturesque home in Covington, Louisiana with their crew of adorable canines.
But the couple also faced many challenges this season as Jeff explored what life after his career in the NFL would look like, including any lasting effects on his health, and they dealt with the fallout of some major drama with Jeff's family. Reagan's decision to spend some time at an apartment closer to her law school in the French Quarter also caused some tension in their relationship.
Reagan previously told PEOPLE in May that "everything fell apart" between her and Jeff right as the season began. "It hit the fan, let’s put it that way. I was in the middle of my second year of law school, which is arguably the most difficult. Jeff and I had tremendous problems with his family," she explained. "It took a toll on us, and it was very difficult but I found that school had become sort of an outlet. Watching that, I can see that I don’t feel like myself and I can see in some moments that I was upset. So that’s been tough.”
In the Southern Charm New Orleans Season 1 finale, Reagan and Jeff faced the possibility of taking their relationship to the next level. Reagan took a pregnancy test, but it turned out she was not expecting (clip above). Though Reagan wasn't quite ready to become a mom just yet, Jeff was excited about the possibility of starting a family. "I haven't had communication with my family, and I feel like it's time for me to start my own," Jeff said during the episode. "So it's disappointing, but I know when the timing's right, when it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen."
When Reagan broke the news to Jeff, she said, "I'll take care of you no matter what. I'm your family no matter what."
Since this season of Southern Charm New Orleans ended, Reagan graduated from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. She now plans to study for the bar and hopes to open her own practice one day. Jeff has become a certified coach for USA Weightlifting, according to his Instagram.
