Shep Rose Shares Behind-the-Scenes Details of Southern Charm's "Dark Years" (EXCLUSIVE)
Southern Charm original cast member Shep Rose reflected on his decade of being on the show.
Shep Rose has been a cast member on Southern Charm since the very beginning (which is 2014, for anyone who is checking), and he's now reflecting on what he sees as the "dark years" of the show.
In the above exclusive video for BravoTV.com, Shep chatted with Southern Charm's Director of Photography, Matt Shelly.
Matt told Shep that he began working on the show back in Season 5, and the South Carolina native had an interesting reaction to that.
"Those were the dark years," Shep said before laughing. "No, it was. Like, Season one, two, and probably three you're like, wide-eyed, it's collaborative, and that's the way it should be."
Shep Rose reveals his favorite episodes of Southern Charm ever
Shep may have felt like Season 5 was part of his "dark years," but the season also included one of his favorite episodes.
While chatting with Matt, Shep revealed that one of his top picks is Season 5, Episode 6, when he tried to induce former castmate Cameran Wimberly's labor with daughter Palmer Corinne Wimberly by driving down a street that's known as "labor lane" in Charleston.
"I love some of the early stuff, like when Cameran and I were driving on the cobblestone road to try to induce her pregnancy," he explained. "That was very funny and sweet."
Another highlight for Shep? When he went to pick up his dog, Lil Craig.
"Getting Lil Craig," he added about his other favorite episode, which took place on Season 6, Episode 8.
Shep Rose shares behind-the-scenes secrets from filming Southern Charm
Shep and Craig Conover are the only two remaining original full-time cast members, and Shep admitted that he never could have predicted that he'd still be part of it — or that it would be as successful as it is.
"I always told people, it's like a series of outrageous, happy accidents. Something always happens, and the secret sauce to our show is that there is no secret sauce," he explained. "It's just like trust that someone or something's gonna go haywire."
As the show has evolved, Shep and Matt noted that the cameras have gotten more sophisticated. Instead of filming at places that weren't busy, the cast now goes all over — from the waterfalls of Jamaica to a night out at Republic Garden & Lounge.
Shep, for his part, is a big proponent of getting the cameras in to capture the very raw and real moments of his life. "I'm all for impromptu filming, like is is reality TV," he said. "Let's go, let's film everything."
