Which Actress Almost Played Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City?
Find out who was in the running with Sarah Jessica Parker for the iconic TV role.
Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce has been compared to Sex and the City since it premiered in 2014. But the similarities between these two series actually go way back. Lisa Edelstein, who plays Abby McCarthy on GG2D, actually almost played Carrie Bradshaw instead of Sarah Jessica Parker. "That wasn't a rumor. That actually happened," Lisa revealed on Access Hollywood Tuesday when asked if it was true that Sex and the City creator Darren Star considered her for the role. "I was either going to do it or not. It depended on whether or not [Sarah Jessica] said yes."
Lisa explained that if Sarah Jessica had turned down the role, she would have been next in line to play Sex and the City's shoe-loving, romantically challenged relationship columnist. "My contract was complete," Lisa said. "I was waiting."
Though it was difficult for Lisa to watch and enjoy the HBO comedy when it took over TV, she doesn't have any hard feelings about losing the chance to play Carrie these days. "Yeah, I didn't really watch it because it was too painful," she said. "But I love the comparisons now. It's sort of a funny thing when life comes around that way."
Like Sex and the City, GG2D has had some amazing fashion moments during its two seasons so far. Watch Lisa talk about Abby's style evolution in the clip, below.
