Ryan Serhant Is About to Do Something "Totally Terrifying"
Prepare for the #MDLNY agent to pique your interest over his new series.
Ryan Serhant has made a name for himself as one of the most successful real estate agents in New York City, and — dare we say it — perhaps even the world. Well, now the Million Dollar Listing New York broker is going to take all of that expertise he has built up sealing deals over the years to help mold others into super salespeople like himself in his upcoming series Sell It Like Serhant.
With this new show, Ryan will be venturing out of the real estate world, helping struggling salespeople in a wide variety of industries, which he admitted to The Daily Dish earlier this spring initially made him "nervous." But now the MDLNY agent has embraced the change and considers it "nice" and "fun."
In fact, Ryan is hoping to see these salespeople go through a major transformation, just as he did when he first got his start in real estate. "So I go into different stores and find people, not businesses, but salespeople, who love what they sell but are just not good at it. And a lot of people say, 'Well, you've either got it or you don't,' and I don't necessarily believe that, because I think if someone came to me at the beginning of my career back in 2008 and talked to me, they probably would have said, 'Oh, he doesn't have it. He's not gonna be a good real estate broker. He doesn't know how to sell,'" Ryan said. "And maybe that's true for some people, but with work and practice, practice makes perfect, and I think I do OK now. And so everything I've learned from going from a very shy, little theater kid to the person that I am today, I'm gonna take all of those, and I'm gonna put them into these people, and I'm gonna make them sales machines."
But don't let that confidence fool you. Ryan said that filming Sell It Like Serhant is still a "totally terrifying" experience for him, partly because he'll be tasked with helping people sell things he knows basically nothing about, from golf shoes to hair weaves to motorcycles. "It's going to be very fish out of water for me, walking in with my suit into these environments, but the personal stories that everybody has are very, very relatable. I mean, I think that's why people like watching Million Dollar Listing New York. Yes, it's the real estate. Yes, it's the high stakes. Yes, it's very aspirational. The numbers, oh my goodness. People like to see the design and all that," Ryan explained. "But it's also three people who live in a city who just work really hard, and they like following our lives and our personal trauma. So Sell It Like Serhant will be aspirational, but it'll also be transformational."
Ryan said that he hopes viewers will take away as much from the new series as those he will be mentoring. "I think people will, hopefully, be able to learn from it. That's where the show kind of came about because people reach out to us all the time from seeing Million Dollar Listing, and they say, well, 'I sell bananas, and watching you guys on that episode really helped me, gave me an idea. And then I talked to this other guy. And then I got that deal done. Thank you so much!'" Ryan gushed. "So we cross different borders, which is cool."
Ryan's not the only MDLNY guy with a brand-new series coming your way. Fredrik Eklund will be teaming up with The Real Housewives of New York City's Bethenny Frankel on a new real estate show. Watch the MDLNY agent reveal all the deets on the project, below.
