On the latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean, musician, producer, and son of Roy Orbison, Roy Orbison Jr. and his family spent a vacation aboard The Wellington. Roy opened up about their Spanish adventure on the June 27 episode of The Daily Dish podcast, which you can listen to below.
Roy is no stranger to spending time on boats, and noted that he has probably set sail “more than most people,” adding, “In Sweden every year, we host a tennis week, where everyone gets these big boats and I’ve done that a couple of times. And as a kid, we would go on family vacations.” However, he also admitted that as a Below Deck Mediterranean fan, this vacation was different than anything he’d previously experienced.
“These guys were magnetic,” Roy said of the charter crew. “I knew a little bit about it because I’m a big fan of the show, so you know, I knew Captain Sandy was great, and Hannah.”
Roy’s family was “really excited” to meet Captain Sandy. “My little son, Roy III, when he met her, he went, ‘there’s Captain Sandy!’”
“I was almost embarrassed that we were kind of fan. I was nervous in general because it’s a big show, but I really trusted her,” said Roy. “I trusted my babies to this staff and this crew, so they didn’t make me feel nervous, and we had a lot of fun.”
Roy said he and his family had such great time, that they were upset to leave. “I wanted to keep on going, just for the fun of it,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting that, you know? That when I left, I didn’t cry or anything, but I missed them.”
