Rebecca Minkoff Defends Her “$100M Company” After Brynn Whitfield’s “Distasteful” Comments

Brynn Whitfield made a "shady" comment about Rebecca Minkoff's business that Erin Lichy shared with Rebecca.

There’s a new friend on Season 15 of The Real Housewives of New York City, but she’s already a household name to many. Rebecca Minkoff learned to sew at age 13, according to Oprah Daily, and her designs eventually exploded into 2000s fashion staples — a must-have for stars like Blake Lively and Hilary Duff. She was even named to Fortune’s 2014 40 Under 40 list at age 33, after selling her one millionth Morning After Clutch (MAC) bag and crossing $100 million dollars in gross sales.

But that didn’t stop Brynn Whitfield from making a comment about Rebecca’s business while at Erin Lichy’s mezcal brand launch party, which Rebecca was unable to attend because she was at an awards ceremony.

“Oh! I didn’t know Nordstrom Rack gives out awards,” Brynn commented in a preview for Season 15, Episode 7. Erin then passed on the “shady” comment to Rebecca over lunch.

“Oh wow, that’s a good one,” Rebecca replied to Erin when Erin shared Brynn’s comment. “Listen, she doesn’t have to like my stuff. That’s fine. I built a $100 million company.”

But Rebecca was upset by Brynn’s comment in her confessional.

“I think it’s pretty distasteful for her to come for my career, or anything I’ve done, frankly,” she said. “I’m not sure what she’s done. It’s like a little yap dog trying to bite you. I have been bit by real sharks. So, this is nothing to me.”

Rebecca’s fashion success was partly due to her early adaptions of technology and social media.

“With the help of her brother and co-founder, Uri Minkoff, she pioneered features like interactive dressing room mirrors, QR codes and nonfungible tokens (NFTs),” MSNBC reported. Her company was one of the first on Snapchat as well, getting an edge with its appearance on the app.

Rebecca was introduced to the other ‘Wives this season through her friendship with Erin. Ubah Hassan, who is a model, had a different take on Rebecca’s career when Erin set the two up.

“I know your name like I know Coca-Cola,” Ubah said when she met Rebecca earlier this season. Ubah later remarked that she considered Rebecca to be “very New York.”
