11 Things You Need to Know About Real Housewives Superfan Casey Wilson
Here's why when the actress-comedian covers all things 'Wives in her new podcast, you should listen.
You won't find a bigger fan of The Real Housewives than Casey Wilson. That is so much the case that the actress and comedian known for starring in Saturday Night Live and in comedies like Happy Endings and Marry Me has just launched a new podcast all about The Real Housewives. In each episode of Bitch Sesh: A Real Housewives Breakdown, Casey and Danielle Schneider, the creator and star of The Hotwives series on Hulu, will dive into everything that goes down on Season 6 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. However, no Real Housewives series is off limits for these two.
So what makes Casey so qualified to dish on all things Housewives? The franchise has actually been a huge part of Casey's life — both personally and professionally — over the years. Find out all about Casey's love of The Real Housewives below, and you'll soon see why she is the person you want to talk about these ladies with over a bottle of Ramona Pinot.
1. She Created a Real Housewives Stage Show
After her stint on SNL, Casey took the stage at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles with an original stage show called The Realest Real Housewives. In the monthly show, Casey and her co-stars performed word-for-word reenactments of memorable moments from throughout The Real Housewives franchise, such as Teresa Giudice's infamous table flip from The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Kelly Killoren Bensimon's Scary Island freakout from The Real Housewives of New York City. ”We perform them like serious stage readings,” Casey said of The Realest Real Housewives in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in May 2011. ”Allison Dubois, the psychic from Beverly Hills, guested in it. I played her, and she played Kyle Richards. Dreams do come true!”
2. She Stars in a Real Housewives TV Parody
Casey took her love for the Housewives from the stage to the screen as one of the stars of the parody series The Hotwives of Orlando, which premiered on Hulu in 2014. The series, which, as previously mentioned, was created by Casey's Bitch Sesh co-host, presents a hilarious and even more over-the-top take (if you can believe it) on everything we know and love about The Real Housewives, from the glamour to the backstabbing to the ladies' entrepreneurial ambition. Season 2 of the series, The Hotwives of Las Vegas, premiered in August, and we can't wait to see where these women go next.
3. She Once Auditioned for The Real Housewives
Well... sort of. Casey filmed a casting tape for The Real Housewives for the WWHL Clubhouse! YouTube channel last year, and it's so spot-on, it's a wonder she hasn't been cast on one of the series in this franchise yet. With a glass of Champagne in hand, but of course, we learn that Casey would have a complete vaginal overhaul if she could pick one cosmetic procedure to get, the last fight she was in involved murdering someone on the street, and her Real Housewives tagline would be, "I'm a friend of the world, unless you cross me, and then I'll f***ing end your life." We love watching Casey in anything, but this proves that she was born to be a 'Wife.
4. She Wanted to Spoof RHONY on SNL
Though SNL has done a few amazing spoofs of The Real Housewives over the years, including one involving Disney Princesses, which you can check out above, and another bringing back several former female cast members for a reunion with Andy Cohen, Casey unfortunately never got to be part of one. However, she tried to make that a reality back when she was still on the late-night sketch show in 2008. “I wanted to tackle every single one of the 'Real Housewives of New York City.' One by one and not stop on them! I’m obsessed with the show. I love and hate them,” Casey told Access Hollywood that year. Here's hoping Casey's dream becomes a reality if she ever returns to the Studio 8H stage.
5. She Hosts Real Housewives Viewing Parties
Whenever Casey gets asked about The Real Housewives series currently on the air, Casey always seems to be all caught up. That's probably because she hosts Real Housewives viewing parties. Can you say best night ever?
6. One of Her TV Shows Has More in Common with RHOBH Thank You'd Think
Casey's comedy Happy Endings was relatively short-lived, running for three seasons on ABC. But before the show was cancelled, Casey spoke about the series' small but passionate fanbase in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in March 2013, saying that fans connect with the show's young Chicagoans like she found herself caring about the cast members of RHOBH. "Look, there is a group of people out there that feel like they are part of our wacky group," Casey explained. "It's like when I watch 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' — I imagine myself on the Ojai trip with them. People feel that way with us. And I don't want that to end." You're not the only one who feels that way, Casey.
7. You'll Never Guess Her Favorite Housewives Moment
When we say Casey is a true Housewives fan, we mean it. Her knowledge of the franchise goes deep. Take, for instance, her favorite Housewives moment is perhaps one of the more underrated, when Dana Wilkey returned to have a drink with Taylor Armstrong on Season 3 of RHOBH. "That was very special," Casey told The Daily Dish in February 2014. Now do yourself a favor, and relive that "very special" moment in the clip, above.
8. She Recommends Starting with RHOC
If you've somehow never seen an episode of any of The Real Housewives, Casey said The Real Housewives of Orange County is the one that will get you hooked. However, you should also proceed with caution. "Well if someone’s never seen them, I’d say don’t start, because you won’t stop," Casey told The A.V. Club in March 2013. "If you’ve never seen them, then just don’t go down that road." Unless, of course, you want years' worth of entertainment, as Casey has experienced.
9. Casey Would Move to the OC
In fact, Casey once said she would move to the OC if she had to choose one of The Real Housewives cities to move to. Our dream of Casey actually becoming a 'Wife just keeps getting more real.
10. Her Favorite 'Wife is an Oldie But a Goodie
By now you can probably tell that Casey loves RHOC, and her favorite 'Wife is unsurprisingly an original cast member from the series, Jeana Keough. But since that tidbit was from a January 2009 interview with Blackbook, we can't help but wonder what Casey thinks of the more recent 'Wives.
11. Alexis Bellino is Her Spirit Animal
Casey seems to identify the most with RHOC alum Alexis Bellino, according to a January 2011 interview with Movieline. However, she also gave some shoutouts to cast members from other series. "Kelly Bensimon is my spiritual demon, I guess," Casey told Movieline. "And I'll always give it up for NeNe [Leakes] from Atlanta, because I love her." Always a crowdpleaser, that NeNe.
Casey had the pleasure of sitting beside a member of The Real Housewives squad when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live. Relive that moment by flipping through the pics, below.
