Project Runway Season 19 Finalists React to the Judges Choosing Shantall Lacayo as the Winner
Christian Siriano has an emotional conversation with the runners-up following this season's final runway show.
After a historic finale of Bravo's Project Runway Season 19, which, for the first time ever, featured all female finalists, Shantall Lacayo was named the winner in the February 3 episode.
Christian Siriano caught up with runners-up Chasity Sereal, Coral Castillo, and Kristina Kharlashkina immediately following the final catwalk in the Project Runway After Show, which you can view, above. Though judges Brandon Maxwell and Nina Garcia, along with guest judge Tommy Hilfiger, were impressed with everyone's designs in the finale, the three runners-up understandably seemed disappointed to not have taken home the top prize.
When Christian asked everyone how they were feeling, Kristina shared that she didn't agree with who the judges chose as the winner. "Like, honest, I appreciate [the] judges' decision," she said. "I don't think that's [the] right decision, and I don't think that's right."
Christian then explained where he thinks the judges were coming from in choosing Shantall as the ultimate winner of Season 19. "All the collections had amazing moments. Even Tommy Hilfiger, who has been in this business for so long, was like, 'Wow.' He was like, 'I really, like, was very surprised,'" Christian said. "And I think it went to who could probably take this a little bit further as a brand and who was fully ready."
Even though they were competitors this season, the designers had nothing but love for each other. "I admired them so much in the Work Room," Chasity said of her fellow contestants in the Project Runway After Show. "And I know both of them are gonna do, like, amazing things."
Kristina also recalled showing Coral so much "love" for her looks all season long and added of Chasity, "I don't have words. I love her so much. And, like, everything that she does, I loved."
