Phaedra Parks: I Will Always Love Apollo
She also responds to Kenya's allegations of her affair with Chocolate.
It hasn't been an easy few weeks for Phaedra Parks—but she's doing her best to stay strong.
After husband Apollo Nida began his 8-year prison sentence for fraud in September, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star revealed her intention to dissolve her marriage in October. And with the upcoming season the show set to premiere this month, she'll also stare down allegations from Kenya More that she had an affair with, to quote Cynthia Bailey in the trailer, "an African man named Chocolate."
Still, Phaedra is living up to her role as a Southern Belle, and in an interview with Access Hollywood Live on Tuesday, she revealed that she will always have love for her soon-to-be-ex-husband—and has no plans to drag his name through the mud.
"Although I live my life in public, I don't obviously live everything in the public," she explains about her decision to keep certain aspects of her life (read: her marriage) private. "This is not due to just him being incarcerated, it's a culmination of things. We are better and healthier individuals now that we are apart."
"I don't care to discuss the specifics," she continued, when asked what really went wrong between the two. "There's no benefit to mudslinging because we have two very young children. I want [my children] to look back and have them think she handled her affairs with dignity and class. I would never diminish my husband, whether we're married or divorced. He will always be family. I will always love him. And we will always love our children."
Kenya Moore, however, may have different ideas: in the trailer for the new season, she claims Phaedra had an affair with a mystery man named Chocolate. But Phaedra says those rumors are bogus.
"It was very upsetting to me, when she made that accusation," Phaedra says. "It came at a time when I was very emotional...I believe in the sanctity of marriage, but I have two small children and I'm raising my sons to respect women...It is ridiculous to think I would do anything inappropriate. There has never been any documentation of such [an affair]."
While Phaedra has yet to file divorce papers with the courts, she's focusing on raising her two boys for the moment: "I'm married [still], I'm not dating anyone," she says. "Let's be very clear [about that]."
