You'll Never Believe Patricia Altschul's Connection to a Former MTV VJ
Bravo's Play by Play's Dave Holmes is the Southern Charm matriarch's link to one of his former coworkers.
Cameran Eubanks has done time on MTV's The Real World. Several Vanderpump Rules SURvers popped up on The Hills. Landon Clements also was featured on the show. Camille Grammer danced her heart out on Club MTV. But there is one Bravo star we would never associate with the three-letter network ... and that woman is Patricia Altschul. But, there was a time in her life when the Southern Charm grande dame just so happened to be married to Arthur Altschul — making her MTV News correspondent Serena Altschul's stepmom.
Patricia married Arthur in 1996, which means, for some time there, Serena and Whitney Sudler-Smith were stepsiblings. (Imagine those holiday dinners for a moment!) And, in case you need to know a little more about Arthur, who hails from a well-known New York family and was pretty well accomplished in his own right, well Patricia opened up about him in her memoir, The Art of Southern Charm: "Ahhh...Arthur. He was the last of his breed: brilliant, charismatic, a great businessman, and a true gentleman with infallible taste and the best sense of humor. He was quite the luminary: a partner at Goldman Sachs, a philanthropist, a major art collector, and on top of everything else, a divine human being." Arthur passed away in 2002.
All these years later, we here at The Daily Dish were reminded of her connection to Serena when former MTV VJ and current Bravo's Play by Play panelist Dave Holmes stopped by our offices to chat.
"It's really weird. I've been tight with the Altschuls for a long, long time. I can't avoid them. I am the house guest that just wont leave," he joked. "And I think people watching Serena on MTV might not have understood how deep her family goes. Like they invented breathing or something and they [collect] royalties and live like kings forever. It's crazy."
OK, they didn't invent breathing, but they are very deeply tied to the banking industry in NYC, so, we guess, there's that.
