Why Did Nene Leakes and Wendy Williams Think It Would Be a Good Idea to Revisit Their Drama?

Hell must have frozen over, because Nene Leakes and Wendy Williams squashed their longtime beef in August. So we figured it would only be a matter of time before Wendy invited Nene back to the purple couch.

And so Nene made her triumphant return to The Wendy Williams Show for the first time in seven years on September 17. The ladies made sure to address the elephant in the room, their recent reconciliation, at the top of the show, which may have actually not been the best idea now that we've seen how their conversation went.

You see, Nene and Wendy couldn't get through the interview without throwing some playful shade at each other. When Nene first sat down with Wendy, she said the host was "such a copycat" for rocking a similar look to the Atlanta Housewife before calling her out for not answering her phone call the day prior. Wendy explained that she wasn't avoiding Nene but was "busy" and "had a situation going on."

Wendy then reminded Nene that she called her out on her wig the last time they were together before going into how they ended their feud. "It's been seven years since Nene has been here. You know, I'm going through a divorce and I'm re-routing my life," Wendy explained. "This is not my fault, but there are people that I have been calling and saying, 'What happened between us?'"

Nene was one of those people to whom Wendy gave a ring. After the two talked on the phone, Nene dropped everything to fly out and see Wendy, which the talk show host said was "very unnecessary but a nice thing to do."

Wendy then shared what she felt caused their falling-out in the first place. "When we first met Nene on the Housewives, she was like our big mouth friend who [would] just say it like she meant it, she had a cute family, and the laugh and that whole bit. Just keeping it real with Nene," Wendy said before adding that she felt like Nene's fame went to her head. "We missed the girl that we knew."

Nene didn't agree with Wendy's version of events and then shared her side of the story. "So you know how Wendy does her Hot Topics?" she said. "And I was just like, 'Dang, she is just really running my name in the dirt.'"

The two then recalled a past disagreement over Nene's Hermes Birkin bag that may have also stoked the fire between them. They still don't agree on what happened with that either, by the way.

But it sounds like Nene and Wendy are able to look back on all this and laugh these days. "You know what, regardless [of] whatever happened, the thing that I love the most is when I got on the flight, and we were meeting in the restaurant, so when I got to the restaurant, it was almost like we never missed a beat," Nene said. "We was just right back into it."

Wendy added, "And we never knew each other in real life; we only know each other from this couch, but it seemed like we were friends in real life before and grown people going through things."

Nene confirmed that Wendy is her "real friend" in a post on Instagram following her appearance on the talk show. "I was heading to the airport today talking to Wendy on the phone and she said....You know what...Us coming back together was good for the universe! I agree!" Nene wrote on September 17. "My phone on fire over here. Love you Wendy Poo."

The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member also called Wendy "the match to my fire, the chips to my salsa and the ice cream to my cake" in another post on Instagram on September 17.
