NASCAR Legend Kyle Petty is Bravo's Biggest (and Most Unexpected) Fan
"When I had the opportunity to meet Andy Cohen, that was like, over the top," Petty exclaimed.
If you thought you were Bravo’s No. 1 fan, let us introduce you to Kyle Petty, NBC sports analyst and retired NASCAR legend. He may beat you to the finish line for that number one title on the racetrack — and when it comes to knowing just about everything when it comes to The Real Housewives. The Daily Dish podcast spoke with Petty about all things Bravo and boy, did he deliver.
Earlier this month, Petty was a guest bartender on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I had a blast as a guest bartender. When I had the opportunity to meet Andy Cohen, that was like, over the top.”
He continued, “I grew up in the sports world, where I've met a lot of really cool people, but getting to meet Andy Cohen was huge and it just so happened the night I was there that Will Ferrell and John Lithgow were there and that was cool too, but Andy Cohen, he's a notch above; that was a notch above. I love, love, love Bravo and love his show."
How did Petty get into Bravo? You might think his wife introduced him to it, but actually he introduced her! “It is so funny because when we first started watching them, she was like, ‘What are you watching?’ And I said, 'You have got to watch this.' This is the most fascinating TV ever. And it took her a little while to get used to it.”
Who is Petty's favorite ‘Wife? “I love Lydia. I just love her attitude and how she approaches life, that's it. She would just be cool just to hang out with.”
When prompted to talk about his favorite franchise, he said “I love Beverly Hills and I don't know why … I don't know why I get sucked into Lisa Vanderpump or to Kyle or to any of them ... I've liked [RHOBH] from the very beginning."
And what does he think about Bravo’s newest Housewives franchise? “I didn't think much of Dallas last year. I’ve got to be honest with you. But it's kind of hooked me this year … It made a tremendous comeback.”
When it comes to Luann and Tom’s drama, Petty gave us the best NASCAR analogy to break it down. “It's like red flag, red flag. I'm in a business where we have red flags for real. They stop the race when they have a red flag. So when you see enough red flags you think, 'Oh my gosh, maybe I shouldn't go down this road.’ I just don't think [Luann] saw that.”
