Marissa Hermer Reveals What's Helped Her Heal After Her Daughter's Emotional Birth
"We've come a long way Sadie baby," the #LadiesOfLondon mom gushed.
Marissa Hermer opened up to Ladies of London fans about the struggles she experienced when she was pregnant with daughter Sadie Ilamae Hermer last year. But the first few moments of Sadie's birth were actually even more difficult for the Ladies of London restaurateur than we thought.
Marissa recently revealed to PEOPLE that she hadn't really "met" Sadie until five days after her birth, and when she did, she said she "had a hard time connecting to her." The mom of three explained that stress like the kind she was facing leading up to, during, and after the birth of her daughter "can affect people in different ways. Rather than clinging to her, I sort of put up my own boundaries of, like, ‘Don’t get too connected to her because she is going to break your heart if something happens.’”
Thankfully, Sadie is "absolutely thriving" these days, weighing in the 99th percentile and having a "cheeky" personality, according to PEOPLE. As the Hermers celebrated Sadie's first birthday on April 21, Marissa reflected on a year full of ups and downs. "Today was our Sadie's 1st Birthday. It also marked the end of an emotionally and physically challenging year for me. Thank you to my dear friends and family who helped us through the rough spots and especially my @matthermer who held my hand through it all and helped me over the hurdles and brought me to the light at the end of the tunnel (and brought me home to California)," Marissa wrote in a heartwarming post on Instagram. "A year later, our warrior Sadie is thriving and our party of 5 is soaking up LA sunshine and blue skies... life is good."
Marissa also recently told PEOPLE that she has found that the best way to move on from the emotional past year has been to just spend time with Sadie, sons Max, 5, and Jake, 3, and her husband Matt Hermer, doing things like “playing sandcastles with the boys and snuggling with Sadie without distractions." "That’s very healing,” she said.
