Luis D. Ortiz: Which Art Icon's Place Did He Sell?
The 'MDLNY' star unloaded the space of a legendary painter—find out details.
Luis D. Ortiz just might want to consider 46 his lucky number.
The Million Dollar Listing New York broker has sold famed artist Jackson Pollock's West Village apartment for $1.46 million. The address? 46 Carmine Street. The number was reportedly also Pollock's own lucky one.
"Jackson Pollack would be so excited to get this number if he were around today," Luis told the New York Daily News. "To him, 46 was a lucky and magical number."
Luis sold the 800-square-foot, one-bedroom loft to a Russian woman who loves art. The loft, located on the top floor of the building, also includes lots of lofty details including slanted ceilings with skylights, exposed brick, a fireplace and an office.
The painter lived in the loft during the 1940s. Adding to its historic charm, the building was once owned by one-time vice president and Alexander Hamilton nemesis, Aaron Burr.
Luis is a bit of a downtown New York expert. He recently moved into his own bachelor pad in Chelsea. "This is a little bit more mature and a little bit more elegant that my last place," he shared about the apartment earlier this month. "It's masculine, but there's a touch of feminine with the little gold accents. It's always good to have something a little bit feminine."
Prior to Chelsea, he lived in Battery Park. So why does he love the downtown area so much? "Every place I've found has been totally unexpected," he said. "You'll find a little place, it will be so nondescript and then you go in back and there's this huge garden or something."
