Lisa Edelstein Welcomed Retta to the Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Clan with Open Arms
The #GG2D star breaks down what it was like to work with the Parks and Rec alum.
Treat yo self... to some Retta, because the Parks and Recreation alum is officially a member of the Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce crew this season. And it turns out that appearing on the show is more than just a gig for the actress — she's a bona fide fan of the series, which kicked off its second season on December 1. And that fandom is being reciprocated by the show's star, Lisa Edelstein.
"I love Retta. Retta's great. Retta is hilarious and she's got a great, big expressive face and she's kind and sweet," Lisa told The Daily Dish. "And she was so excited, and she's a fan of the show, like true fan of the show [where she] wouldn't read any part of the script that she wasn't in that didn't relate to the story because she didn't want to ruin it for herself because she watches the show. Go, Retta. We loved welcoming her into the clan."
While Retta and the Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce cast became fast friends when the cameras weren't rolling, things were a bit different for their characters. You see, this season Retta's Barbara and Lisa's Abby are workplace rivals at the female-focused website, SheShe, where Abby lands a job. "It was intentional that Retta's story line is contrary to Abby's so-called experience," she said. "But the truth is Abby, once again, is not actually having the experience that her character pretends to be having. So she's once again lying in public. The same way the show started in Season 1 that she's lying about having the perfect family and her marriage is dead; in Season 2 she's even lying about being divorced." -Reporting by Andrew Herrmann
