Lisa Barlow Has a Surprising Update on Son Jack's Mission: “I’m Going to Start to Cry”
The RHOLSC cast member shared an update on what Jack is doing and learning in Colombia.
If it wasn’t for her makeup, Lisa Barlow promised she would be crying as she updated everyone on her son Jack Barlow’s two-year Mormon Church mission in Colombia during the Season 5 premiere of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
When the premiere was filmed, the 19-year-old had been on his mission for almost eight months.
“I miss him like crazy every day,” Lisa said in her confessional. “The only way we get to communicate is Facebook messages and phone calls once a week. I love hearing him grow, and just seeing his priorities change and just for him to still be like, ‘Cool Jack,’ but with a purpose.”
Where is Jack Barlow now?
Lisa caught her friends up on Jack’s mission Colombia during her Besos party.
“He’s obsessed with Colombia,” she said. “And I feel like it’s teaching him a lot of things. Like they have the coolest bookstores and barbershops.”
But that’s not all Jack’s been up to — he’s also eating out at local restaurants. Lisa told her friends Jack’s been “going to all the best coffee shops.”
“He found two Michelin-star restaurants in Bogota,” Lisa added. “And it’s like so cheap. So, I’m like, ‘Wait, save that one for when Dad and I come to pick you up.’”
This news did surprise some of the cast members, though.
New Housewife Bronwyn Newport, one of Lisa’s friends, responded, “I really don’t know this mission Jack is on — he DMs you, he’s buying coffee,” and added in her confessional, “This is not the Mormonism that I was raised in.”
Lisa Barlow briefly reunited with son Jack
About two months after the Besos party, Jack enjoyed a short homecoming in Utah with Lisa, her husband, John, and her youngest son, Henry.
“Love seeing my Jack so we could make sure the next 14 months in Colombia he would be completely well,” Lisa posted on social media along with a picture of the family. “I love seeing his maturity, hearing him speak Spanish and his love of service and the people of Colombia.”
The meetup was reassuring for the Housewife, after the family had quite a scare when Jack was hospitalized back in December 2023.
“He will be [OK],” Lisa wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, but added it’s “hard being so far away.”
It was unclear what caused the hospitalization.
After Jack found out he’d be heading to Colombia in Season 4, Lisa reflected on his difficult decision.
“You know, this mission for Jack is so personal,” she said. “And he’s going for the right reasons. He’s going because he felt strongly that this is the right decision for him. He had everything at his fingertips. He could be doing anything else in the whole entire world, but he chose to go out there and connect with people. Share a message of love and kindness. Teach people about God. As soon as he wakes up, until the time he goes to bed, he is going to be serving others, and as a mom, I couldn’t be more proud of him.”
